Traditional Craftsmanship + Digital Fabrication

Traditional craftsmanship based on heritage skills is a form of cultural preservation. In the analog world a measurable percentage of the product yield is accomplished though the human experience. Brain, brawn and a half century of acquired skills is our foundation. Iterated, refined and often re-imagined for the times. Sometimes a new tool comes along that can assist the craftsperson on their journey. However a majority of the glow emitting from a final product has a direct connection to the energy of the person who created it.

Digital design, digital fabrication and digital manufacturing are often thought of as a process to reduce human interaction. Sometimes necessary to produce thousands of parts with consistent precision. Other times to increase cost effectiveness. Neither of these are a primary driver in our work ethos. Our view is with the assistance of computer controlled machinery can yield something extraordinary which can not possible or effectively be done by hand. Mixing this technique with traditional craftsman skills can effectuate a phenomenal body of work.
